Historic Downtown Watertown
Olympic Byway, State Rt. 3, near Watertown in Jefferson County
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Square is defined by numerous 19th century buildings.
Public Square was deeded in 1805 for public use and was originally called the Mall. The 5 and dime store magnate F.W. Woolworth was born and raised nearby. One of his original stores was located on the western end at Arsenal Street on Route 3. Seven of Watertown's main streets, made up of Routes 3, 11, 12 and 283, intersect at the square.
