French Louis Grave Site
Adirondack Trail, State Rt. 30, near Speculator in Hamilton County
Louis Seymour, a French Canadian better known as French Louie, lived an often solitary hermit's life in various camps he maintained between Speculator and Moose River Plains region.
He often told the tale of the greatest curiosity he'd ever seen, a man who chased little birds with double-barreled glasses that brought them up close. Louie died of Bright's disease, an old term for a kidney disease, at Brooks Hotel in Speculator on February 28, 1915, and was buried in the Speculator Cemetery, off Route 30.
