Olympic Byway, County Rt. 3, near Herrings in Jefferson County

This is the whitewater section flows past Carthage, Herrings, Deferiet, Fort Drum, and points northward.

Look for the sign in the vicinity of Route 3, not 3A, and County Route 37, between Herrings and Deferiet. The river drops approximately 480 feet in this 30 mile section creating a rapid flow and a series of whitewater runs and play areas that are famous among whitewater enthusiasts and paddlers.
