Travel the Adirondack North Country Scenic Byways and discover the people, places and adventures along the way. Whether you want to pursue a long-time passion or learning something for the first time, each of the Scenic Byways offers a unique route to memorable experiences marked by fresh air, clear water, spectacular scenery, historic communities and invigorating outdoor activity.

This website primarily features activities, attractions, and events you can enjoy for little or no cost, such as walkway along the river, a short hike to a waterfall, a stroll to enjoy historic architecture or an annual craft show. Listed attractions that require an admission fee are usually operated by a not for profit or a government entity. While there are hundreds of activities and events featured on this website, there are hundreds more that are not. Attached to each activity, event, and community listing are website links for more information. Those online resources provide additional detail on that listing and also provide suggestions on many more activities and events. Those organizations are most knowledgeable about specific activities or locations and will gladly answer your questions by email or over the phone.

Arts, History & Culture

The rich history and culture found along the Adirondack North Country Scenic Byways combined with vibrant artists and performers will engage your soul. This section of the website features the special historical and cultural treasures nestled in a special landscape. The ancient mountains and valleys have sustained generations and continue to support artisans, farmers, and other residents while rejuvenating visitors

Wildlife & Scenery

Many travel to the region to enjoy its scenery and panoramic landscape views, an experience that is further enhanced by catching sight of a favorite animal, bird, plant, insect, fish, amphibian, or reptile. The diversity of landscapes and wildlife along the Scenic Byways provides many such opportunities and there are opportunities as well for learning more about the region’s flora, fauna and ecology.

Recreation and Outdoor Adventure

The Scenic Byways are a ribbon of highway through a recreation paradise. The recipe for an enjoyable recreation experience along the Scenic Byways is an easy one. Take one pair of comfortable shoes, add to that any additional equipment needed for your favorite activities and grab your swimming suit just in case. Supplement your equipment as needed by a visit to a local outfitter and while there toss in a healthy dose of local advice on the best times and locations. Add a pinch of adventurous spirit and you are ready to go.
